One of the boda boda riders who gave a chase to the assailants who shot and killed Daniel Bbosa, the Buganda Ndiga clan head has spoken out on events before, during and after the chase.
Following the Sunday evening shooting, boda boda riders gave a chase to the two assailants who were travelling on a motorcycle and apprehended them, killing one of them on the spot and the second one was left unconscious.
The killer gun, an AK47 and the motorcycle were also recovered.
Narrating to mourners the events of the day, the boda boda rider (name withheld) said following the shooting, he together with others started the chase of the assailants.
“They sped towards Nsibambi road where they went towards the slope but we never gave up the chase,” he narrated.
“When they realized that we were not giving up the chase and we were on their heels, the assailants slowed down and the passenger on the motorcycle tried to get out of the gun from the back to shoot at us. As he got it out and turn, the gun slid and got held into the motorcycle spokes,” the boda boda rider said.
He narrated that this state of affairs led to a fall for the motorcycle of the assailants.
“I then jumped into the neck of one of the assailants and my colleagues joined me.”
Asked where he got the courage to give a chase to the armed assailants, the boda boda rider said he could not let the killers of Bbosa got away like that.
Police on Monday identified the deceased assailant as Enock Sserunkuuma, a resident of Lungujja whereas the one who sustained serious injuries after mob action as Noah Lujja whom he said has now returned to consciousness but under close watch by police detectives at Mulago.
Police also hailed the boda boda riders or giving a chase to the assailants.
“ We thank the community for their vigilance, especially the bodaboda movement, who courageously pursued the assailants. It is a testament to good community vigilance and a commitment to the neighborhood watch,” police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said.
He however warned the public against mob justice.
“ We still have more work to do on how, to prevent acts of mob justice, after arrest, because it negatively impacts our leads including the motive of the suspects and identification of other perpetrators, to the violent crimes. “
