Police have arrested four people, including a medical doctor, in connection with the mysterious death of Caroline Nalubwama, who was reportedly the girlfriend of city socialite Brian Kirumira, popularly known as Brian White.
The suspects are Dr. Joyce Irene Nambalirwa, proprietor of Mabirizi Nursing Home, who faces allegations of negligence causing death; Nakato Naava, Daphine Abaho, and Daisy Nalunga, believed to be Brian White’s wife.
Nalubwama, 25, died late last month following an alleged fire incident at Brian White’s residence. However, police say there are inconsistencies in the timeline of events and how the case was reported.
“We have four suspects in custody. Investigations show that the incident actually occurred on October 22, not October 24 as earlier stated, and it was only reported to police on October 27,”
said Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, during a Monday briefing at the Police Headquarters in Naguru.
Owoyesigyire revealed that after the fire, the victim was first taken to Mabirizi Nursing Home, a private facility, before being referred to Kiruddu Hospital.
“The victim was rushed to Mabirizi Nursing Home, but upon realizing they could not handle the case, she was referred to Kiruddu. However, there was a delay because the caretakers lacked money to clear medical bills,”
he explained.
Police allege that the hospital owner withheld the patient over unpaid bills and even confiscated a laptop belonging to one of the caretakers.
“The delay in seeking proper medical attention and the failure to promptly report the incident to police raised suspicion that the suspects were trying to manage the situation privately,”
Owoyesigyire added.
Meanwhile, Brian White is currently admitted at a hospital along Interval Road, under police guard.
“We only assign police guards to individuals of interest in ongoing investigations,”
Owoyesigyire noted, confirming that the case file has been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for review and legal guidance.
“The RSA is reviewing the file to determine whether to sanction charges against the suspects. Further updates will be communicated,”
he said.
