The burial program for slain Uganda Rugby Cranes player Sydney Gongodyo has been released.
Gongodyo was reportedly beaten by a mob at around 2:00 p.m. on Friday in Masulira Zone, Bukoto I Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District. He was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital but succumbed to his injuries at around 7:00 p.m.
According to the burial program, the public will be given an opportunity to view the body at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere on Sunday between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
The body will then depart for Senior Quarters on Bungokho Road in Mbale City at 12:00 noon, where a vigil will be held starting at 6:00 p.m. on the same day.
On Monday, June 8, 2026, a funeral service will be held at Senior Quarters at 11:00 a.m., after which the body will depart for Sironko District for another vigil beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Burial arrangements will commence on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
Police on Saturday confirmed that the Stanbic Black Pirates and Uganda Rugby Cranes player was attacked and beaten by a mob under circumstances that remain unclear.
A video circulating on social media shows Gongodyo being chased and assaulted by a group of people as he attempts to flee.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, said investigations into the incident have commenced.
