Crime in Uganda registered a notable decline in 2025, according to the latest Annual Crime Report released by the Uganda Police Force.
The report, launched by Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, shows that a total of 196,405 cases were reported in 2025, down from 218,715 cases recorded in 2024.
This reflects a 10.2% reduction in reported crime.
According to the report, out of the total cases registered, 115,301 were forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal action. Of these, 79,291 cases were successfully taken to court.
The police report shows that 24,899 cases resulted in convictions, leading to 31,732 individuals being convicted and sentenced.
The report further highlights a decline in economic and corruption crimes from 13,132 in 2024 to 11,548 cases.
Additionally, cases of obtaining by false pretences reduced to 8,455 from 10,449, reflecting progress in tackling financial crime.
Police say the reduction in crime is a positive sign of improved law enforcement efforts, though they emphasize the need for continued vigilance and cooperation from the public to sustain the trend.
The Annual Crime Report provides a snapshot of crime trends across the country and serves as a key tool for guiding policing strategies and interventions.
