Security have warned opposition politicians not to dare them by going ahead with their planned protests over the poor state of roads in Kampala.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Rubaga RCC, Anderson Burora warned that it will be foolhardy for anyone to go to the streets in the name of protesting while heads of state are jetting into the country for the Non-Aligned Movement Summit at Munyonyo.
“Many heads of state are expected in the country and security will be heightened. Therefore, demonstrations will not be allowed. Security will be unusual; protocols are different and those who want to participate in these protests risk facing a different kind of security than you have been facing before,” Burora said.
“ Heads of states are protected differently and more so on foreign land. We want to advise them that we can participate in our local politics but tomorrow is a bad idea, a mistake for anyone to think you will go and interfere with the motorcades of the heads of state at the expense of demonstrating for roads.”
He asked members of the public not participate in the said protests or else they might face the wrath of security.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire re-echoed similar sentiments.
“We know there are many potholes in the roads but blocking them(roads) will be an inconvenience to others. Whoever is got will be arrested and taken to courts of law,” Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said on Wednesday.
“ It is unlawful to close a public road without informing authorities. We ask them not to dare do it since we shall be ready for them.”
Opposition politicians on Tuesday said they are planning a protests on Thursday against the state of roads in Kampala.
To this they asked members of the public to join them by blocking roads which have potholes.
“Wherever you are, get a banana plant, yam or potato vein and plant it wherever there is pothole,” Alliance for National Transformation’s Winnie Kiiza said.
