Diamond Trust Bank Uganda (DTB) has partnered with Universal Multipurpose Enterprises Limited to expand access to affordable housing and property financing solutions for Ugandans.

The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at DTB Uganda’s Head Office in Kampala, aimed at providing prospective homeowners and property investors with structured mortgage and financing solutions to make property acquisition more accessible.

The partnership comes amid growing demand for housing in Uganda, where the country faces a housing deficit estimated at more than 2.4 million units, according to DTB Uganda.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, DTB Uganda Managing Director Godfrey Ssebaana said the partnership demonstrates the bank’s commitment to developing practical financial solutions that address the needs of individuals, families and businesses.

“Today’s announcement formalises a shared commitment between our two institutions to make home ownership more accessible for Ugandans. Through this partnership, DTB and Universal will work together to provide customers with better, more structured access to mortgage financing and a smoother home-buying journey—from the moment a family decides they want a home of their own to the day they receive the keys,” Ssebaana said.

He noted that Uganda’s growing housing demand presents both a challenge and an opportunity for financial institutions and property developers to create sustainable solutions that enable more citizens to own homes.

“This presents not only a challenge, but also an opportunity for institutions like ours to provide practical, sustainable solutions. Partnerships such as this one are essential if we are to make quality housing more accessible to Ugandans,” he added.

Muffaddal Yeolawala, the Managing Director of Universal Multipurpose Enterprises Limited, said the partnership would help address one of the major barriers affecting home ownership in Uganda.

“At Universal, we are committed to making home ownership more accessible for Ugandans. Our partnership with DTB Uganda will enable us to offer customers a more seamless property acquisition experience while contributing to the growth of Uganda’s housing sector,” Yeolawala said.

The partnership is expected to support national efforts aimed at increasing access to decent housing, promoting investment in real estate and stimulating economic growth through property development and mortgage financing.

Ssebaana said the collaboration builds on DTB Uganda’s recently launched Mortgage Finance solution, which provides structured, longer-term financing options for credible property developers, individuals and corporate employees.

“Through this partnership, we are making that journey even more accessible, and we encourage all Ugandans who aspire to own a home to speak to us about the mortgage solutions available to them. Together, we can turn the dream of home ownership into a reality for many more families,” he said.
