Former Arua District LC5 Chairperson Alfred Okuonzi and his son, Stephen Pariyo, have been remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations of abuse of office and theft of a district motorcycle that Okuonzi allegedly failed to hand over to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
The two appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court, where Principal Magistrate Christopher Opit read the charges against them. Both accused persons denied the allegations.
According to the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), Okuonzi allegedly abused his office while serving as Arua District LC5 Chairperson by irregularly taking possession of motorcycle registration number UFA 401N and refusing to hand it over to the CAO.
The motorcycle had reportedly been donated to Arua District Local Government by the Norwegian Refugee Council.
The IGG further alleges that Okuonzi and his son fraudulently took the motorcycle, which belongs to Arua District Local Government, without any claim of right and with the intention of permanently depriving the district of its property.
The two will remain on remand at Luzira Prison until November 10, 2026, when they are expected to return to court for their bail application.
