Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the fatal shooting and robbery of a mobile money operator in Soroti City.
According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the suspects were picked up following intensified investigations into the murder of 32-year-old Patricia Kokunda, who was attacked in the early hours of Good Friday.
“The Police wishes to update the public on the ongoing investigations into the aggravated robbery and murder by shooting of Patricia Kokunda,” Rusoke said in a statement.
Kokunda was attacked at around 4:40am on April 3, 2026, at Teso Coach Park along Station Road near Goalman Supermarket. Police say she had been trailed by assailants as she went to board a taxi to Ocorimongin Cattle Market in Katakwi District.
During the attack, she was shot and robbed, sustaining critical injuries. She was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital but later succumbed to the gunshot wounds.
Rusoke revealed that two suspects—Alex Okello and Felix Onego—were arrested on the same day of the incident. A third suspect, Simon Epeu, also known as Iboda, was later arrested in Anyara, Kalaki District, where police recovered Shs7 million believed to be part of the stolen money.
On April 4, police arrested the suspected shooter, identified as Alfres Elacu, in Orungo, Amuria District. The victim’s smartphone was also recovered after being dumped in a bush in Kichinjani.
“Outstanding inquiries are ongoing to recover more key exhibits,” Rusoke added, noting that the hunt for any additional suspects is still underway.
