Diana Mutebi, a businesswoman based in Masaka, Uganda, has steadily built a cosmetics company, Lady D Beauty Cosmetics, that is gaining traction across East Africa and within diaspora communities.
The brand has grown from a small local venture to a recognized name in the regional beauty market.
Born on November 1, 1987, at St Jude Clinic in Nyendo, Masaka, Mutebi completed her primary and secondary education in Masaka before earning a degree in Social Sciences from Makerere University in 2012.
After graduation, she worked briefly with The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) in Masaka, gaining experience in community engagement and resilience.
Mutebi’s entrepreneurial journey began with a printing business along Nasa Road, supported by her husband, Wakulila JohnKennedy.
However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she shifted focus to the cosmetics industry, launching Lady D Beauty Cosmetics at Natete Business Center. This move was motivated by the need to adapt to changing market conditions and to explore new business opportunities.
Lady D Beauty Cosmetics produces a range of skincare and beauty products aimed at catering to different skin types common in the East African region.
The brand has grown gradually, benefiting from Mutebi’s focus on product quality and customer service.
While still primarily serving the Ugandan market, Lady D Beauty Cosmetics has expanded its reach to neighboring countries and to Ugandans living abroad.
The company also provides employment and skills development opportunities, particularly targeting women, although it faces challenges common to growing enterprises, such as limited resources and competition.
Mutebi continues to work on expanding distribution channels and increasing product offerings.
The business remains based in Masaka but is exploring partnerships and networks to strengthen its regional footprint.
While Lady D Beauty Cosmetics has yet to achieve the scale of larger industry players, its steady growth reflects Mutebi’s commitment to building a sustainable business that meets local demand and creates opportunities within her community.
