President Museveni has said government will in the next term create a fund for fresh university graduates who have not yet secured jobs.
“I am going to stand a fund for university leavers. If you have left university and haven’t got a job for two years, I want you to benefit from this fund,” Museveni said.
He was speaking during a campaign rally at Alebtong Booma grounds in Alebtong district, Lango sub region.
According to Museveni, the fund will enable fresh university graduates access loans to start their own businesses, instead of waiting to be employed.
“This is because these children’s parents sometimes struggle with private sponsorship. It is not fair when that student finishes and government doesn’t assist him or her,” Museveni said.
He said by giving loans to fresh graduates to enable them start their own businesses, government will help deal with the problem of unemployment.
Museveni said this will add onto other funds like the Parish Development Model , all aimed at ensuring all Ugandans are engaged in wealth creation.
He noted that government will also create a separate fund for religious leaders.
PDM for wealth creation
Museveni urged the people of Lango to use the Parish Development Model program to create wealth for themselves.
Giving examples of several PDM beneficiaries from several parts of the country, Museveni said the people of Lango can as well become wealthy , by starting small and growing big.
“NRM is appealing to Ugandans to get out of poverty. The PDM money is yours. We give shs100 million per parish and in five years it will be shs500 million in a parish. By end the of the five year cycle including what is paid back which is shs300miilion, it makes it shs800 million Even if government doesn’t add , this is not small money. Make sure this money is not misused. There are other interventions like Emyooga and money for ghetto youths among others,” Museveni urged.
He explained that by creating wealth, they can easily create jobs and fight unemployment.
Museveni said other ways in which jobs can be got is working in factories and providing services.
According to Museveni, craving for wealth is better than craving for infrastructural development in form of roads.
“Many leaders talk of roads, tarmac and electricity but even if there is tarmac, are you going to sleep on the road at night? Development is ours but wealth is mine as an individual, family or company.”
