The Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has asked Democratic Party president Norbert Mao to drop his bid for the Speakership potential challenge against incumbent Speaker Anita Among.
In a post on his social media on Friday, Gen Muhoozi appealed to Mao to reconsider his position.
“I respectfully request my big brother Ladit Norbert Mao not to run for Speaker of Parliament. Please listen to your younger brother. We can get better positions,” he said.
The appeal comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 12th Parliament, with the Central Executive Committee of the ruling NRM party having already endorsed Anita Among and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa to retain their positions.
The two were endorsed in January.
However, President Museveni who is also the NRM national chairman said on Wednesday at Kyankwanzi threw the speaerkship race, especially within the ruling party open when he said CEC will reconsider its position on the race.
“We shall discuss that at the right time because CEC had recommended that we maintain the two…because it had become a tradition,” Museveni said.
