Government has announced a temporary ban on heavy commercial trucks weighing 7,500 kilogrammes and above from using the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, effective Monday, August 31, 2026.
The Ministry of Works and Transport said the restriction will apply to commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 7,500kg and above, whether loaded or unloaded.
According to the Ministry, the measure is aimed at protecting the expressway’s infrastructure as the Government completes the installation and commissioning of weighing and load-verification facilities.
“Commercial vehicles weighing 7,500kg and above (GVW), loaded or unloaded, will be temporarily restricted from using the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway,” the Ministry of Works and Transport said in a public notice.
The Ministry said the restriction is necessary to protect the expressway’s carriageways, ramps, toll plazas and bridges from potential damage associated with heavy truck traffic.
Commercial vehicles weighing less than 7,500kg will not be affected by the directive and will continue to use the expressway.
Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire engines and police vehicles, have also been exempted from the restriction.
The Ministry has urged operators of heavy commercial vehicles to plan their journeys accordingly and use lawful alternative routes during the restriction.
“This is a temporary measure. We’ll keep you posted on any changes,” the Ministry said, thanking road users for their cooperation as the Government works to protect the expressway infrastructure.
The Kampala-Entebbe Expressway is a key transport corridor linking Kampala with Entebbe International Airport and carries significant passenger and commercial traffic.
The Ministry said the restriction will remain in place temporarily as the Government completes the installation and commissioning of the weighing and load-verification facilities.
