Government has procured brand new vehicles worth shs35.2 billion for all District Chairpersons, City Mayors, and Municipal Mayors across the country, Minister for Local Government Raphael Magyezi has announced.
Magyezi made the disclosure while responding to a petition by the Uganda Local Government Associations (ULGA) on September 4, 2025, which highlighted challenges hampering effective service delivery.
The vehicles, all Toyota Double Cabin pick-ups, are expected to ease the mobility of local government leaders as they monitor service delivery in their jurisdictions.
“Government has procured brand new vehicles (Toyota Double Cabin pick-up) for all District Chairpersons, City Mayors and Municipal Mayors. The first batch of 90 vehicles will be in the country by the end of September 2025, while the last batch is expected in November 2025,” Magyezi revealed.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the country’s leadership for backing the procurement.
“We thank H. E. the President, Cabinet and Parliament for appropriating UShs.35.2bn in the supplementary budget in April this year, for this purpose,” he added.
Magyezi emphasized that the new vehicles are part of government’s commitment to strengthen local government structures and improve efficiency in delivering services to communities.
The Ministry of Local Government confirmed that distribution will be carried out in phases, starting with 90 units arriving this month, followed by the remainder in November.
