The Ministry of Works and Transport has issued an advisory after a road section along the Karuma–Kamdini stretch of the Gulu Highway, about 1 km from the Karuma–Olwiyo/Pakwach junction on the Kampala side collapsed.
According to the ministry preliminary reports indicate that heavy rains caused embankment damage, leading to the road failure.
The ministry noted that the affected section has been hoarded off, and traffic is being managed on a single lane while restoration works are mobilized.
The ministry has particularly advised drivers of heavy trucks and trailers to take an alternative route.
“We advise all drivers of heavy trucks and trailers to divert at the Karuma–Pakwach junction [URA checkpoint] and proceed to Olwiyo Trading Centre, approximately 51 km from Karuma Junction, then turn right to connect through Anaka and continue to Gulu [approximately 62 km],” the Ministry said in a statement.
Motorists have also been urged to drive cautiously, reduce speed, and follow all traffic control instructions while passing through the affected area.
“We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your cooperation as we undertake emergency interventions,” the statement read.
