Police in Kampala have arrested Clinton Mwesiime after he confessed to a pastor at Phaneroo Ministries International Church that he had killed his girlfriend.
The arrest took place on Saturday, August 9, following Mwesiime’s admission to Apostle Grace Lubega during a church service.
According to sources, Mwesiime revealed that the incident occurred in a lodge in Kabale, where he allegedly used a knife to stab his girlfriend in the heart before fleeing the scene.
“During the service, he confessed to Apostle Lubega that he had killed his girlfriend in Kabale and was on the run. He said the two lovers were in the lodge and he drew out a knife that he used to stab the girlfriend around the heart area and she died,” the source said.
A source familiar with the matter said that Apostle Lubega prayed for Mwesiime but warned him that the police would eventually be involved. Following the confession, officers detained Mwesiime at Jinja Road Police Station.
Police in Kabale confirmed that the murder had occurred and that the suspect was on the run. The investigating officer subsequently travelled to Kampala to record statements from church leaders, including Apostle Lubega.
Mwesiime is expected to be returned to Kabale, where he will be arraigned in court for the alleged offence. Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrest.
