Uganda’s legendary Afrigo Band is set to return to Guvnor this Friday, July 25, for another electrifying edition of Friday Night Live, with celebrated cultural artist Irene Namatovu joining as the night’s headline guest performer.
The event, now branded Ndongo Semadongo, is part of the I&M Bank-sponsored monthly series that brings together generations of music lovers to celebrate Uganda’s rich musical heritage. Held every last Friday of the month, the night has become a staple in Kampala’s live music calendar.
Irene Namatovu, widely known as “the Queen of Culture”, is expected to deliver a vibrant set rich in folkloric sounds and soul-stirring vocals. With hit songs like Best Friend, Abasajja, and Kuzaala Kujagaana, her performance promises to be a dynamic blend of tradition and entertainment that transcends age.
Afrigo Band, Uganda’s oldest and most beloved live band, is using this series as a warm-up to their 50th-anniversary mega concert slated for next month. Last month, they performed alongside Sophie Nantongo in a show that left Guvnor’s crowd calling for more.
Guvnor’s in-house DJs will open the night with signature mixes before live performances take center stage.
Speaking about the series, I&M Bank’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Annette Nakiyaga, emphasized the bank’s commitment to promoting cultural experiences that bring people together:
“We’re proud to support a platform that brings together generations through music. It’s an opportunity for us to connect with our customers in a meaningful way, while celebrating the rich heritage that defines us as a people,” Nakiyaga said.
With Afrigo Band’s iconic sound and Namatovu’s cultural flair, this edition of Friday Night Live promises to be a standout celebration of Ugandan music, talent, and unity.
