Political dynamics in Nansana Municipality have taken a significant turn as veteran political activist Sserunkuuma John Bosco, widely known as Kaana Kambaata, has officially withdrawn from the race for Member of Parliament ahead of the 2026 general elections.
His exit clears the path for former NBS news anchor Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, who is now seen as the frontrunner to secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) party ticket for the parliamentary seat.
Sserunkuuma, a household name in grassroots political mobilization, has shifted his focus to the mayoral race for Nansana Municipality, where he is expected to go head-to-head with Hamuza Kasozi for the NUP flag.
Reacting to the development, Zambaali took to his official X (formerly Twitter) page to acknowledge Sserunkuuma’s decision and reaffirm his commitment to represent the people of Nansana in Parliament.
“Dear comrades, supporters, and fellow Ugandans, I have received news that John Bosco Sserunkuuma has officially withdrawn from the parliamentary race of Nansana Municipality opting instead to seek the mayoral seat,” Zambaali posted.
“While we respect every individual’s choice to serve in the position they feel called to, our mission remains the same: to secure a voice for our people in Parliament and to advance the values of justice, freedom, and equal opportunity under the banner of the @NUP_Ug National Unity Platform.”
“At the end of the day, we may take different paths, but we share one goal: a better, more just Uganda. Let’s continue to engage in politics of principle and purpose. The people’s power cannot be silenced, and our momentum cannot be stopped.”
The development is expected to reshape NUP’s internal political contest in Nansana, a constituency known for its high voter turnout and strong support for opposition politics.
Zambaali’s growing popularity boosted by his background in media and public advocacy is now likely to receive added momentum as party structures weigh their options ahead of the primaries.
Meanwhile, Sserunkuuma’s move to seek the mayoral seat sets up another heated race, as he prepares to challenge Kasozi, another prominent NUP figure at the municipal level.
