The Anti-Corruption Court has remanded the Accountant of National Teachers’ College (NTC) Kaliro, Okiria Clement Epalat, to Luzira Prison over allegations of causing a financial loss of Shs121 million to the Government.
Okiria, 55, appeared before Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe on Monday, where he denied the charges. He was remanded until August 12, 2026, when he is expected to return to court for the mention of his case and the hearing of his bail application.
The accountant is jointly charged with the college’s Principal, Evelyn Grace Lanyero, over alleged abuse of office and causing a financial loss of Shs121 million to the Government of Uganda.
According to the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), both officials are currently under interdiction as investigations and prosecution continue.
Lanyero was arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court last year, where she was remanded before being released on bail.
Court heard that Okiria had been on the run since last year before he was arrested on July 31, 2026, paving the way for his prosecution.
The Anti-Corruption Court has scheduled a pre-trial hearing for September 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., as the case progresses.
The prosecution is being led by William Moses Ntumwa, a Principal Inspectorate Officer at the Inspectorate of Government.
If convicted, the accused face penalties under Uganda’s anti-corruption laws for abuse of office and causing financial loss to the Government.
