Police in Kiboga District have arrested a Burundian national accused of hacking his employer to death during a dispute over unpaid wages.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2026, in Kyomya Sub-county, where the suspect, identified only as Fabulisi, reportedly attacked his 22-year-old employer, Golooba Akiram, as he prepared logs for charcoal burning alongside his wife, Naggawa Gloria.

According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, the suspect, who had been working as a casual labourer for the deceased, confronted Golooba demanding payment before allegedly drawing a panga.

“The suspect pulled out a panga and charged at his victim, shouting, ‘Bwotampa sente zange ninkutema’ (If you don’t give me my money, I will cut you),” Kigozi said.

Police allege that the suspect then struck Golooba on the neck, inflicting fatal injuries.

Following the attack, the suspect allegedly grabbed the deceased’s wife and dragged her to the home of the LC1 chairperson while continuing to demand payment of his wages.

The village chairperson, Muwonge Sulaiman, reported the incident to Kyomya Sub-county Police Station, which subsequently alerted Bukomero Police Station. Detectives were dispatched to the scene to begin investigations.

“The body was found lying on the stomach in a pool of blood approximately 15 metres from the primary scene. A panga with suspected dry blood stains was recovered,” Kigozi said.

Police said preliminary investigations established that the suspect had lived in the village for about a year and was known to residents as a casual labourer working for the deceased.

Fabulisi was arrested shortly after the incident and is being held at Bukomero Police Station as investigations continue under CRB 142/2026.

Kigozi urged employers and communities to exercise caution when hiring casual workers whose backgrounds are not known.

“We caution our people to be careful with foreign casual workers whose backgrounds are not known in their villages. We also urge employers to communicate clearly with their workers regarding payment to avoid unnecessary conflicts,” he said.
