Police at Kira Road have arrested a suspected notorious robber accused of terrorising residents in Kiwatule and surrounding areas through violent early morning attacks.
The suspect, identified as Joel Nkwasibwe, was arrested on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation conducted in Balintuma Zone, Kiwatule, Kampala.
Police said Nkwasibwe, who had been on their watch list, is suspected of being involved in a series of robbery incidents in which victims were allegedly attacked using blunt objects, including a paver.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the arrest followed coordinated efforts to track down individuals linked to violent crimes in the area.
“The suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation targeting criminals who have been attacking and robbing members of the public, especially during early morning hours. He is believed to have been involved in several robbery incidents,” Kawala said.
Police preliminary findings indicate that on July 6, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked a boda boda rider by hitting him with a blunt object believed to be a paver before taking off with the rider’s personal belongings.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment.
Kawala said detectives are continuing with investigations to establish whether Nkwasibwe is connected to other similar attacks reported in Kiwatule and neighbouring areas.
“We are conducting further inquiries to establish the full extent of his involvement in criminal activities. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is encouraged to share it with the police,” she said.
The suspect remains in police custody and will be produced before court after completion of investigations.
Kawala urged members of the public to remain alert and work with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities to help curb violent crime.
“Public cooperation is essential in the fight against crime. Timely information from communities helps security agencies respond quickly and prevent criminal acts,” she added.
