The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the UPDF General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has dropped Maj Gen James Birungi as the UPDF Mountain Infantry Division Commander.
Gen Birungi who was two months ago moved from Defence Intelligence and Security(DIS) formerly Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence(CMI) had also been appointed overall commander of Operation Shujaa against ADF in Eastern DRC but the Wednesday evening mini-reshuffle announced by Col Chris Magezi, the military assistant to the CDF indicated he had now been transferred to Burundi as the defence attache.
In his position, Brigadier Paul Muwonge who has been his deputy has been elevated and will now command the UPDF Mountain Infantry Division based in Fort Portal, western Uganda.

Meanhwile, Brigadier Simon Ochan who has been Uganda’s defence attache in Bujumbura has completed his tour of duty and will report back to the Joint UPDF Services headquarter for reassignment.
Brigadier Muwonge who recently accompanied the CDF on an official working trip to Kinshasa, DRC, now also assumes command of the ongoing Operation Shujaa, a joint operation with DRC’s military forces (FARDC) to degrade and destroy the Allied Democratic Forces(ADF) terrorist group that operate in some parts of eastern DRC.
“The UPDF fraternity congratulates the General officers upon their new appointments and wishes them good luck in their new duties,” Col Magezi said.
