Andrew Misagga, a fifth-year veterinary medicine student at Makerere University, has won a 1990 vehicle after emerging as the public’s top choice at the 2026 Love for Cars Convention.
Misagga, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, beat five other contestants to claim the car offered by For the Love of Cars Uganda, organisers of the annual automotive convention.
The other contestants were Juliet Nampijja, Abdu Shakulu Kabalaasi, Keneth Muwanguzi, Johnson Ssenyonyi and Paul Mwesigwa.
During the campaign, Misagga told the audience that owning a vehicle would support his veterinary work, particularly when travelling to attend to animals.
“Help me so that next time when you call me to attend to your animals, I don’t have to come with spoilt drugs courtesy of poor handling because of transport challenges,” Misagga said.
The contest attracted 184 votes, with Misagga securing 51 per cent to emerge as the winner. Kabalaasi came second with 16.3 per cent, while Nampijja received 11.4 per cent. The remaining votes were shared among the other contestants.
Arthur Kisenyi, founder and host of For the Love of Cars Uganda, handed over the vehicle to Misagga and announced that the competition would become an annual feature of the convention.
“I hand you this car and implore you to always take good care of it. Should you fail to take care of it in the next three years, the first clause of our agreement is that you sell it back to me,” Kisenyi said.
Kisenyi said the vehicle had been serviced before the handover and that Misagga received it with a full tank of fuel and access to free mechanical services as part of the prize.
“Make sure that you take good care of this car, ensure that it’s in good shape. You have been offered with a full tank of fuel for starters, free mechanical services,” he added.
However, Kisenyi cautioned Misagga that the vehicle’s age meant he would need to set aside money for future repairs.
“The car is old but we have worked on it thoroughly. Have some money on you to always repair it. The modification is on point, tyres are new, it has an installed alarm, among others,” Kisenyi said.
The second edition of the Love for Cars Convention brought together hundreds of motoring enthusiasts, car owners and prospective vehicle buyers for activities that included games, hands-on demonstrations, expert discussions and networking.
The convention also recognised individuals for their contributions to Uganda’s motor vehicle industry.
Duncan Maliso was named Best Male Car Content Creator, while Hilda Car Accessories won the Best Female Car Content Creator award. DK Car Modification was recognised as the Automobile Restoration Technician, while Engineer Richard Kasirye received the Best Engine Body Technician award, among other winners.
Kisenyi said the awards would also become an annual feature of the Love for Cars Convention as organisers seek to recognise and promote talent, innovation and excellence in Uganda’s motoring industry.
