A fresh call for financial discipline has been sounded to UPDF soldiers under the 4 Infantry Division, as Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) officials rally soldiers to borrow wisely and build sustainable wealth.
The campaign, themed “Mindset Change for a Better Future,” is part of an ongoing countrywide sensitisation effort led by a team from WSACCO headquarters in Kampala.
The initiative targets financial literacy among military personnel, encouraging investment in long-term assets over short-term consumption.
“Think about where you are financially, where you want to go, and how to get there. Let your borrowing be guided by purpose, not impulse,” said Capt Jonathan Kizito, Head of Wazalendo Single Member Company (SMC) Ltd, while addressing troops at the 4 Division headquarters in Gulu.
Capt Kizito emphasized the importance of structured financial planning, urging soldiers to focus on acquiring essential assets such as land, which offer lasting security and growth potential.
He pointed to WSACCO’s flagship product, “Malipo 25,” which allows members to pay for land in installments over two years and receive full land ownership documents upon completion.
He also encouraged troops to consider purchasing from WSACCO’s estate sites in Namayiba (Mukono), Matugga-Mabanga, and Bujjuko along Mityana Road as part of their long-term investment plans.
Maj Livingston Musiime, WSACCO’s Head of Information and Security, echoed the call for disciplined borrowing, especially among newly deployed soldiers who may be unfamiliar with SACCO operations.
“Understand the demand for your product or service and position yourself strategically,” he advised, cautioning against hasty financial decisions made without proper research and planning.
He also warned against the growing trend of consumption-driven borrowing, saying: “Avoid being misled by slogans like ‘Kula zote’. That kind of mindset will only leave you financially exposed.”
The officers highlighted that while WSACCO offers an array of accessible financial products, the ultimate impact lies in how members choose to use them responsibly and strategically.
The meeting attracted a large number of WSACCO members serving under the 4 Infantry Division, marking a significant step in the cooperative’s broader mission to foster financial literacy and self-sufficiency within the military community.
