Police have arrested a man who allegedly lures women and girls on social media platforms especially faceook before asking them out for dates and later robbing them.
Vincent Odongkara was arrested last month after targeting several girls whom he would invite for dates in several high-end places in Kampala and while escorting them back home, he would draw knifes at them before robbing them of their belongings.
“He has been targeting women and girls on facebook and he arranges dates to meet them. He would then rob them at knife point,” Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said on Tuesday.
“The latest victim was Jemimah Namiiiro who after meeting on facebook in November, they started a love conversation that led them to a date at Kasasa-Bulaga in Wakiso district. While escorting Namiiro, Odongkara drew out a knife and stabbed her on the had before robbing her bag with shs200,000 and other belongings.”
According to the police spokesperson, Namiiro had travelled all the way from Najjanankumbi along Entebbe Road and after the robbery, she reported the matter to Najjankumbi police.
Enanga said following the report, the Crime Intelligence started tracking the suspect until he was arrested on December 27.
“He admitted to luring girls and women on facebook and robbing them after having dates with them,” Enanga said.
He however warned women and girls and against meeting strangers alone, urging that in case of meetings or dates, they should be accompanied by another adult.
