Movit Foundation hands over five-classroom block to Bunyangabu’s Kadindimo Primary School

The Movit Foundation has handed over a newly constructed five-classroom block to Kadindimo Primary School in Bunyangabu District, in a project aimed at improving the learning environment while creating employment and skills development opportunities for the surrounding community.

The new classrooms are expected to ease pressure on existing learning spaces and provide pupils with a more conducive environment for education.

The project holds particular significance for the Movit Foundation because Bunyangabu is the home district of its founder, whose own primary education journey began in the area.

The Minister for Local Govenrment, Balaam Barugahara said the project should inspire pupils to look beyond their current circumstances and pursue their ambitions.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to dream beyond his or her present circumstances. A child sitting in a classroom in Bunyangabu today can become an entrepreneur, a doctor, an engineer, a teacher or a national leader tomorrow.”

Barugahara also called on parents and community leaders to complement investment in school infrastructure by supporting children to remain in school and protecting the new facilities.

Beyond education, the project created economic opportunities during its construction.

More than 78 members of the surrounding community were employed, while local workers received practical training in interlocking brick technology, giving them skills that could be used on other construction projects.

Movit Foundation Board Chairman Dr Bruce Mpamizo said the project was designed to create impact beyond the construction of classrooms.

“A classroom is valuable because of what happens inside it, but we are equally encouraged that the process of building these classrooms created opportunities outside them. People worked, earned an income and acquired skills. That is how a single investment can begin touching different parts of a community.”

The school also received 90 desks, while the classroom block was constructed using interlocking stabilised bricks manufactured on site.

The project included a monument and external works aimed at improving drainage and access and integrating the new facilities into the wider school environment.

Mpamizo said the Foundation hopes the long-term value of the project will be measured not only by the infrastructure but also by the opportunities created for pupils and the wider community.

With construction complete, the focus now shifts to maintaining the facility and ensuring it continues to serve future generations of pupils.

For Kadindimo Primary School, the handover marks the completion of a major infrastructure project while opening up additional learning space for children in the community.
