President Museveni has declared that individuals who fraudulently secured NRM party flags during the recent primaries will be removed, as the ruling party moves to clean up what he described as a “polluted” internal electoral process.

In a strong -worded statement issued Monday, Museveni assured both NRM members and the general public that all irregularities from the party primaries are being investigated, and that those who manipulated the process will not be allowed to benefit from their actions.

“What happens to the flagbearers who were fraudulently declared?” Museveni asked rhetorically. “Everything will be rectified. It is just the facts and evidence that will conclude the matter.”

The president openly condemned the actions of what he called “self-seekers” who tampered with the party’s internal democratic process.

“The glorious NRM primaries were nevertheless kutokozibwa (polluted) by mistakes committed by self-seekers,” Museveni stated. “The mistakes included: altering results; bribery; and claims of interfering with the registers. These actions were criminal and also distorting the politics and the law of elections.”

He said government intelligence and law enforcement agencies, including ISO and CID, had already arrested and charged some of the perpetrators of electoral fraud, and that the party would now focus on correcting the political and legal damage left behind.

Museveni dismissed any suggestion that NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi would be tasked with rectifying the primary results, arguing that Odoi himself could not fix mistakes he may have been part of.

“Our lawyers have advised that Tanga Odoi cannot be the one who corrects a mistake that he made,” Museveni revealed. “It is the lawyers’ committee (the Tribunal), that will deal with politics and the Law.”

He emphasized that the tribunal’s decisions would be guided by the same evidence that security agencies used to build criminal cases against suspects.

In a direct message to NRM supporters who feel cheated, the President offered a clear promise: fraudulent winners will be exposed and removed.

“Those affected by the mistakes of the mistake-makers should know that their grievances are already being addressed,” Museveni said. “Everything will be rectified.”

The statement comes amid growing unrest within NRM structures, where a number of candidates and their supporters have been demanding a review of primary results in various constituencies.
