President Museveni, who is also the ruling NRM presidential candidate is set to throw a mega rally immediately after his nomination.
The mega rally according to the NRM director for mobilization, Rosemary Sseninde, will be held at Kololo Independence grounds, shortly after Museeni’s nomination by the Electoral Commission.
“We invite all NRM members and the general public to attend the rally. I also ask those who want to protect the gains achieved to come attend this rally at Kololo,” Sseninde said.
Nomination
The mega rally according to the ruling NRM party will happen immediately after Museveni’s nomination by the Electoral Commission on Tuesday at Lweza, along Entebbe Road where the commission is constructing its new home.
The Electoral Commission on Saturday announced that only Museveni and Forum for Democratic Change’s Nandala Mafabi are the only presidential aspirants who have so far met the requirements for nomination in the 2026 presidential race.
“Out of the 27, two aspirants had met the required supporter numbers, while the others were at various levels of compliance,” said EC spokesperson, Julius Mucunguzi.
According to Section 10(1b) of the Presidential Elections Act, a presidential aspirant must present at least 100 registered voters from not less than two-thirds of all districts in Uganda — translating to a minimum of 9,800 supporters drawn from at least 98 districts.
The NRM recently unveiled the official portrait and theme for the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
Under the new theme in which the NRM seeks to protect its gains it asks Ugandans to “protect the gains as they make a qualitative leap into high middle income status.”
Museveni, 81 will be seeking his seventh term as Uganda’s president since the 1996 presidential elections.
