Nabbanja, Alupo retain top positions in Museveni’s new cabinet

President Yoweri Museveni has announced a new Cabinet, retaining Vice President Jessica Rose Epel Alupo and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja in their respective positions.

Nabbanja will also continue serving as Leader of Government Business in Parliament, ensuring continuity in the management of parliamentary affairs.

The new Cabinet features a blend of experienced leaders and fresh appointments across key ministries.

Former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has been appointed First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, while Dr. Crispus Kiyonga becomes Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business. Lukia Nakadama has been named Third Deputy Prime Minister without Portfolio.

Janet Kataaha Museveni retains the Education and Sports docket, Milly Babalanda remains Minister for the Presidency, and Jim Muhwezi continues overseeing Security in the Office of the President. Eng. Asiimwe Jonard has been appointed Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation.

One of the notable changes in the reshuffle is the swap between Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng and Dr. Chris Baryomunsi. Dr. Aceng has been appointed Minister of Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance, while Dr. Baryomunsi takes over the Health Ministry.

Other key appointments include Frank Tumwebaze as Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Dr. Monica Musenero as Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, and Henry Musasizi as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

Kiryowa Kiwanuka has been appointed Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, while Norbert Mao takes charge of the Justice and Constitutional Affairs docket. Judith Nabakooba remains Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Balaam Barugahara heads Local Government, and Gen. Katumba Wamala becomes Minister of Public Service.

The Cabinet also includes Adonia Ayebare as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde as Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, and Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu as Minister of Internal Affairs.

Other notable appointments include Tom Butime as Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Sanjay Tanna as Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire as Minister of Water and Environment, and Byamukama Fred as Minister of Works and Transport.

Several Ministers of State were also appointed. In the Office of the Prime Minister, Lillian Aber, Beatrice Akello, Anyakun Esther Davinia, Alice Kaboyo, and Grace Mary Mugasa were named to various roles.

In the Agriculture Ministry, Bright Rwamirama and Robert Migadde Ndugwa were appointed to oversee Animal Industry and Fisheries. John Chrysostom Muyingo retained the Higher Education docket, while Peter Ogwang was named Minister of State for Sports.

Other State Ministers include Phiona Nyamutoro (Minerals), Amina Mukalazi (Privatization and Investment), Calvin Echodu (International Affairs), Joyce Ssebugwawo (Information), and Lawrence Muganga (Internal Affairs).

In a related development, Kenneth Omona has been transferred to the diplomatic service as an ambassador, with his posting expected to be announced later.

Meanwhile, Hamson Obua, Ruth Nankabirwa, Francis Mwebesa, and Evelyn Anite are expected to take up Senior Presidential Advisor roles.
