Police have vowed to enforce  the  forthcoming National Cleaning Day scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, July 25, 2026.

The exercise, which will run from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., is part of government efforts to promote a cleaner environment, improve public health and curb diseases linked to poor sanitation.

In a statement, Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said that during the exercise, movement of vehicles, vessels, motorcycles and bicycles will be restricted across the country, except for emergency situations.

“All vehicles, vessels, motorcycles, and bicycles shall not be allowed on the roads and water bodies except in emergency situations. Traffic movement will be restricted countrywide,” he said.

Rusoke urged members of the public, motorists, traders, institutions and community leaders to comply with the directive and actively participate in the nationwide cleaning exercise.

“We urge all citizens, motorists, traders, institutions, and community leaders to fully comply with this directive and actively participate in the cleaning exercise,” Rusoke said.

He encouraged members of the public to remain within their communities during the cleaning exercise and resume normal activities after 10:00 a.m.

The Police said emergency services, including medical emergencies, will be exempted from the restrictions. Persons travelling for scheduled medical treatment have been advised to carry relevant medical documentation, while medical personnel should have valid identification documents.

The National Cleaning Day is part of broader government initiatives aimed at improving sanitation standards and encouraging communities to take responsibility for maintaining clean and healthy surroundings.
