The Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, has expressed profound grief over the children who lost their lives in a tragic attack at a day care centre in Ggaba, describing the incident as “horrific” and a stark reflection of inhumanity in society.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and strongly condemned the attack.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the parents and families of the children who tragically lost their lives yesterday in Ggaba in such a horrific incident,” he said.
The Katikkiro denounced the perpetrators, emphasizing that such acts have no place in society.
“Acts of this nature, carried out by individuals devoid of conscience and humanity, must be strongly condemned. No one deserves to suffer such pain at the hands of another,” he added.
He also called on security agencies to act swiftly and ensure justice is served.
“We urge the authorities to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice promptly, so that the affected families can find closure,” he said.
Katikkiro added that the kingdom stands in solidarity with all those affected.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the parents, the school community, and everyone affected during this very difficult time.”
The attack occurred on Thursday at Ggaba Early Childhood Day Care Centre, a suburb of Kampala, where a suspect identified as Christopher Okello Anyu posed as a new parent and violently stabbed young children.
Four pupils—Ryan Odeke, one and a half years, Gideon Eteko, two and a half years, Keisha Elungat (2 years), and Ignatius Sseruyange (2 years)—were confirmed dead, sending shockwaves across the community and the nation.
Residents and parents attempted to lynch the suspect, but police intervened, arrested him, and recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack.
Police have promised to provide the public with a full report once investigations are complete.
