The High Court in Entebbe has sentenced notorious Wakiso land grabber Charles Kyagaba to eight years in prison after finding him guilty on charges related to fraud and land grabbing.
Kyagaba was handed two consecutive four-year sentences on two counts of obtaining money by false pretences, bringing the total jail term to eight years.
The sentence follows his conviction by the High Court in Entebbe on May 16 on several charges linked to land grabbing in Wakiso District.
Court found him guilty of malicious damage to property, fraudulent procurement of land titles, criminal trespass, assault and forcible entry.
Prosecution told court that Kyagaba, together with accomplices still at large, spent years terrorising residents in Entebbe and other parts of Wakiso by fraudulently claiming ownership of land and property before selling it to unsuspecting buyers.
Court heard that many residents lost property and money through the fraudulent schemes orchestrated by Kyagaba and his group.
Kyagaba was arrested in 2022 following complaints from residents and investigations conducted jointly by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Criminal Investigations Directorate.
Some of Kyagaba’s alleged accomplices remain on the run.
