A tragic road accident early Monday morning claimed the life of one person and left four others injured along the Katosi–Nyenga Road in Buikwe District.
The crash occurred at around 1:30 AM on July 21, 2025, in Katovu, Ngongwe, involving a Scania bus, registration number UA 354AN, belonging to Gateway Bus Company.
The bus was en route from Kampala to Soroti via the Katosi route when the accident happened.
According to preliminary police investigations, the fatal crash was caused by a front tyre burst, which led the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The bus veered off course and overturned to the right side, killing the driver instantly and injuring four passengers.
Police responded swiftly, with the injured victims being transported to Nkonkonjeru Health Centre and Kawolo Hospital for treatment.
The body of the deceased driver was taken to Kawolo Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
SP Michael Kananura the public relationship officer directirate of traffic and road safety confirmed the incident and urged motorists to prioritise vehicle safety and routine checks.
“We extend our condolences to the family of the deceased. This tragic loss could possibly have been prevented. We continue to urge all motorists to carry out regular maintenance checks and adhere to road safety regulations at all times to avoid such unfortunate incidents,” said SP Kananura.
The vehicle was later towed to Ngongwe Police Station as investigations into the crash continue.
