As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure safety and eliminate criminal activity in the Kampala Metropolitan area, police have carried out coordinated operations targeting suspected criminal hideouts, resulting in the arrest of 112 suspects across different divisions.
The operations were conducted in areas including Kira Road, Ntinda, Nateete, Entebbe, and Kasangati, where security teams dismantled groups suspected of engaging in theft, burglary, vandalism, and other criminal acts.
In Kira Road Policing Area, particularly Mulimira and Kyebando, police arrested 31 suspects during an operation led by the Divisional Police Commander. The suspects are currently being held at Kira Road Police Division pending screening and fingerprinting.
At Ntinda in Kigowa, police intercepted suspected criminals who fled and abandoned dangerous items including pangas, hammers, iron bars, sticks, and jerrycans containing suspected fuel. Two suspects were later arrested while hiding in a residential garage. Preliminary findings suggest they were allegedly planning arson attacks linked to a land dispute.
In Nateete’s Kanaala Zone, one suspect was arrested in possession of four suspected stolen motorcycles and several number plates. Police say verification of ownership is ongoing.
In Entebbe (Bunono and Guda), 31 suspects were arrested in operations targeting theft, burglary, and vandalism, and are expected to appear in court.
In Kasangati Division, police arrested more than 47 suspects from betting centres and known criminal hideouts in Wampewo Ward, Gayaza, and Kijabijjo. Two additional suspects were arrested for allegedly operating an illegal garage used to dismantle stolen motorcycles, with several parts and number plates recovered.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the operations are part of sustained efforts to disrupt criminal networks.
“Police note that some criminal elements are exploiting betting centres, unfinished buildings, and makeshift structures as hideouts. These operations are ongoing and are aimed at ensuring public safety and eliminating criminality,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police confirmed that all suspects remain in custody pending screening and possible court action as investigations continue.
