The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced that over Shs1 billion was raised during the “Run for Charity, Run for Hope” held on Sunday to celebrate his 52nd birthday.
“I’m happy to announce that we raised over 1 billion Uganda shillings during the birthday run. Thank you all for your support,” Gen. Muhoozi said.
The charity run, organised by the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), attracted hundreds of participants from government, civil society organisations, security agencies, musicians, and members of the public.
The event was held as part of celebrations marking Gen. Muhoozi’s 52nd birthday and aimed at supporting vulnerable and underprivileged children across the country.
The funds collected will go toward helping orphans, street children, and other children lacking basic needs such as food, education, and shelter.
PLU said the initiative was intended to give hope to disadvantaged children and improve their welfare through direct support to selected charities.
Gen. Muhoozi said he will soon announce the beneficiary organisations and officially hand over cheques to them.
“I shall soon announce the charities we shall support and hand over cheques to them,” he said.
