A man in Kiryandongo District has been remanded to prison over allegations of defrauding residents by falsely claiming he could help them access Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.
The suspect, identified as Peter Nangoti, is the chairperson of Panyadoli PDM SACCO. He was arrested on March 6, 2026, after authorities accused him of obtaining Shs2.88 million from 15 people through false pretences.
According to government officials, Nangoti allegedly misled the victims into believing they had to pay money in order to benefit from PDM funds. However, authorities emphasized that access to PDM support is free and does not require any payment.
Nangoti was later arraigned in court on March 13, 2026, where he was charged and remanded as investigations continue.
The arrest follows a Presidential directive aimed at cracking down on individuals exploiting wananchi by demanding money in exchange for access to government programs.
Government says the move is part of wider efforts to protect citizens and ensure that PDM resources reach the rightful beneficiaries without interference from fraudsters.
