Police have dismissed as false widespread social media reports alleging the arrest of a senior officer.
Rumours had circulated online claiming that SP Karim Mukiibi of the Field Force Unit (FFU) had been arrested while allegedly attempting to flee to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The claims quickly gained traction across social media platforms, sparking public debate.
However, police have refuted the allegations.
In a statement, Diana Nandawula, the Deputy Police Spokesperson, said the reports are entirely false and misleading.
“Our attention has been drawn to misleading and false propaganda circulating on social media alleging that SP Karim Mukiibi of the Field Force Unit (FFU) has been arrested by the Uganda Police,” she said.
She clarified that the officer remains on duty and continues to execute his responsibilities.
“We wish to clarify that SP Mukiibi has not been arrested. He remains on duty and continues to diligently perform his official police responsibilities.”
SP Mukiibi is widely known for commanding Field Force Unit operations during the 2026 general election period, including deployments that restricted movements of NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine.
The force has not indicated any investigations or disciplinary action involving the officer, maintaining that he is actively serving.
