Police in Kampala have kicked off investigations into the cause of a fire that burnt down part of the boys’ dormitory at Nakawa Union Vision Secondary School in Butabika during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The incident according to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, occurred at around 1:00 am in Butabika Hospital Village, Butabika Parish, Nakawa Division.
Fortunately, no lives were lost.
Onyango said the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
“Police were notified and responded immediately with a fire brigade team from Butabika Police Station. Additional reinforcements were dispatched from the Fire Brigade Headquarters to help extinguish the fire,” said SSP Onyango.
“We are grateful that there were no casualties. All students were safely evacuated,” Onyango added, emphasizing the quick response by emergency teams.
Onyango confirmed that inquiries are ongoing and pledged transparency in the findings.
