Police have said they cleared the planned march by Patriotic League of Uganda(PLU) members against Parliament because organisers agreed to respect set guidelines.

PLU supporters recently announced they would protest in the city against a section of Members of Parliament they said are fond of meddling into affairs of their leader, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

They accused the MPs of ignoring matters of national importance and drag the name of their leader into matters he knows nothing about.

The protest is for today.

Addressing journalists on Monday, Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke confirmed they had cleared the protest.

“PLU submitted a notification and request to police to be secured and be guided in their activity. They were granted permission,” Rusoke said.

The Police spokesperson however said that the group will not be marching to parliament but Kati Kati Restaurant.

“They were given guidance. The factors usually considered for allowing protests are as long as there are guarantees that a procession is going to be peaceful and whether there are guarantees of non- hooliganistic tendencies. Being that it( proest) is an enshrined right, there can be collaborative arrangements between security and the organisers to have it done and in a peaceful way. These are issues that were considered in clearing their march,” Rusoke said.

The clearance of the PLU protest has left many with tongues waging as whispers of double standards spread.

Many have said that it is unfair that when opposition politicians request for similar alliance, they are denied and dispersed with teargas and arrests.
