PostBank Uganda and Crown Beverages Limited (CBL) have rewarded the national women basketball team, Gazelles for their stellar performance in the AfroBasket 2025 qualifiers

The team was able to secure its place in the AfroBasket 2025 tournament following a hard-fought victory against Egypt.

The Afro Basket championship is set to take place from July, 27  to  August , 32025, in Ivory Coast.

The tournament  is the women’s basketball continental championship of Africa, played every two years organized by FIBA, the world governing body for basketball.

As part of the women’s day celebrations, PostBank and Crown Beverages honoured the national women’s basketball team.

PostBank Uganda’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Priscilla Akora, explained that the bank is committed to supporting excellence and resilience, values that the Gazelles have exemplified on their incredible journey to the AfroBasket tournament, and the 2025 Women’s Day was an opportune time to celebrate them and rallying behind them as they prepare for the tournament come July 2025.

“As a bank dedicated to fostering prosperity for Ugandans, we believe this contribution will make a meaningful impact on the team’s preparations. With youth and women empowerment as one of the key pillars of our Corporate Social Investment, this donation is more than just financial support, it also recognizes, inspires, and uplifts women in sports to accelerate the action they want to see in their personal and professional lives which is in line with the 2025 International Women’s Day theme Accelerate Action,” Akora said.

Againe Sandra, the Corporate Communications Manager at Crown Beverages Limited, emphasized the importance of hydration, especially in light of the recent heat wave with temperatures soaring up to 34 degrees, causing discomfort and the need to constantly take water.

“This initiative with PostBank is timely, and through the Nivana Brand, CBL will donate 400 cartoons of water because hydration is crucial both during and after training sessions, and we hope this will help the team stay refreshed and energized as they prepare for the upcoming tournaments.”

The Woman Commissioner under the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA), Mrs. Ainematsiko Racheal Atuhairwe expressed her gratitude to PostBank Uganda and Crown Beverage Limited for the generous donations towards the activation’s that will be conducted this month to celebrate women in sport.

“We are honored to receive these donations that have come in a time when the Gazelles are soon  preparing for AfroBasket tournament, and as FUBA we believe if we join efforts with partners like PostBank, CBL, and all those we collaborate with, we are able to  pave way for nurturing or grooming local talent and sports in the country, particularly women’s sports which are often sidelined.”

Gazelle’s Deputy Captain, Akello Hope Agnes appreciated PostBank and CBL for celebrating the team. She said this will inspire them to even soar to greater heights as they represent the country at the 2025 AfroBasket tournament in July this year and also looking forward to the support for the upcoming activations to not celebrate women but also celebrate all young girls and women who play different sports.
