PostBank Uganda’s digital wallet, Wendi, has trained more than 5,000 people in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono as part of a financial literacy and inclusion campaign targeting unbanked and underbanked communities.

The campaign, launched in mid-July, is being rolled out across 30 markets in Wakiso and Mukono districts and will run until the end of August. It aims to equip communities with knowledge on how to access and use digital financial services, especially those offered through the Wendi platform.

A key highlight during the sessions has been the Wendi 10% savings feature, where customers who save shs20,000 and above earn 10% annual interest, credited daily—a rare incentive in Uganda’s mobile wallet landscape.

Brenda Mpoora, Head of Fintech Business at PostBank Uganda, said Wendi is designed to bring financial services closer to the people.

“Wendi is not just another wallet, it is a game-changer in Uganda’s digital finance space. We are taking financial services right into the hearts of communities—markets, trading centers, and neighborhoods—so people see that these services are accessible, inclusive, and simple,” she noted.

The wallet also features group savings tools for SACCOs, VSLAs, and investment clubs, enabling transparency and efficiency in community savings. In addition, it provides digital microloans, Western Union integration for cross-border transfers, and wallet-to-wallet as well as cross-platform transfers with MTN and Airtel.

According to the FinScope Uganda 2023 survey, over 5.3 million Ugandans remain financially excluded. Wendi is stepping in to bridge this gap by offering user-friendly digital financial services aligned with the Bank of Uganda’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy.

PostBank says Wendi is also supporting government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, by creating opportunities for Ugandans to save, access credit, and digitize payments.

Mpoora confirmed that the grassroots campaign will soon expand to other districts:

“These engagements in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono are just the beginning. Plans are underway to extend this campaign nationwide to ensure no Ugandan is left behind in the journey to financial inclusion.”

The Wendi onboarding process requires only a national ID and phone number, with no paperwork involved. Users do not need to be existing PostBank customers. Services are accessible via a mobile app on Google Play and App Store, or through the *229# USSD code.

With an expanding network of over 6,000 agents, partnerships with local banks, and merchant acceptance across sectors such as fuel stations, restaurants, and hotels, Wendi is positioning itself as more than a wallet—a platform for wealth building and affordable financial access.
