The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has cautioned the public about fake accounts and handles on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok that are impersonating the company by misusing its logo and identity.
This comes after the emergence of a fake account on X and other social media platforms impersonating UEDCL, sharing false information and responding to people in an offensive manner.
Jonan Kiiza, the Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs at UEDCL, confirmed the development, urging Ugandans to remain vigilant and verify content before sharing.
“We are aware of fake accounts and handles on X and TikTok that misuse our logo and identity,” he said.
He urged Ugandans to always verify any post on social media before sharing.
“We urge Ugandans to always verify before trusting or sharing any content from such sources. Our official platforms are verified and linked to authentic phone numbers,” Kiiza added.
He further listed the company’s genuine social media accounts as follows:
X (Twitter): @UEDCLTD | @UEDCLMD | @UEDCLSpox
Instagram: Instagram.com/UEDCLTD
TikTok: shorturl.at/218Kv
LinkedIn: shorturl.at/HBP8v
UEDCL emphasized that all its verified pages are directly linked to official phone numbers and should be the only trusted sources of information from the company.
Kiiza also warned against individuals posing as UEDCL staff, urging the public to always demand proper identification from any worker before they climb an electric pole.
“Before climbing any electricity pole, UEDCL employees must introduce themselves. It is also the responsibility of the community to ask for identification to ensure the safety of their area,” he said.
