A Senior Three student at BrightWay Secondary School in Kassanda District has died after he was allegedly struck on the head by a stone thrown by a school canteen attendant during a confrontation.
The deceased has been identified as Ronald Ssemiyingo, 20, a Senior Three student at the school located in Kyamasansa Village, Kassanda Sub-county.
According to police, the incident occurred on October 5, 2026, at about 7:00am after Ssemiyingo and Resty Namutebi, a canteen attendant at the school, got into a confrontation.
SSP Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, said Namutebi picked up a stone and threw it at the student she was confronting but missed her intended target.
“The stone instead hit Ssemiyingo Ronald on the head, seriously injuring him,” Kigozi said.
The injured student was reportedly given first aid at the school before being rushed to Red Rose Hospital for further treatment.
However, upon arrival at the hospital, he was pronounced dead, prompting police to open a murder investigation.
Police said the death was reported at Kassanda Police Station on October 7 at about 1:30am by Emmanuel Luyima.
Following the report, a homicide team from Kassanda District visited the scene and recorded statements from witnesses.
Namutebi has since been arrested and is being held by police as investigations continue.
Kigozi said investigators are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the exact cause of Ssemiyingo’s death.
“Further investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances under which the deceased was struck with a stone, including the exact cause of death,” Kigozi said.
