A 14-year-old schoolgirl from Kabale District has received full educational sponsorship after a viral video showing her cycling to school in the rain captured national attention.
The girl, identified as Angel Blessings Atuhaire, a Primary Seven pupil at Kengoma Day Primary School, was seen in the video riding a bicycle to school early on Friday morning while it was raining heavily.
Dressed neatly in her purple school uniform and blue sweater, with a school bag on her back, she appeared determined to reach school despite the harsh weather conditions.
The video, initially recorded by a motorist, quickly went viral, sparking widespread interest as social media users sought to identify the girl and her school.
Among those moved by the clip was city socialite Sheilah Gashumba, daughter of political commentator Frank Gashumba, who publicly pledged to support the girl’s education.
After Angel was identified, Gashumba fulfilled her promise, committing to cover her education through university.
“I’m willing and ready to pay for school fees and boarding fees for the young girl plus anything she needs for school until she finishes university. When God blesses you, you bless others. With the little help rendered to her, she will become a better child for her family and her community,” she said.
Sources indicate that Angel is the daughter of a boda boda rider, Moses Nfitumukiza, based in Kabale.
The gesture has been widely praised on social media, with many Ugandans describing it as life-changing support that will transform the girl’s future and inspire greater community assistance for vulnerable children.
