In a way of retaliation, Uganda Law Society president, Isaac Ssemakadde has fired the council members who superintended over his expulsion from the lawyers’ body.
On Saturday, Uganda Law Society Council announced the expulsion of their president, Isaac Ssemakadde.
In the order, the secretary of the Uganda Law Society , Philip Munaabi said in the face of several misdeeds by Ssemakadde, they had decided to suspend him until further notice.
“Therefore, in order to restore public trust and confidence in Uganda Law Society and the legal profession in Uganda we resolve to expel the president of the Uganda Law Society, Mr. Ssemakadde Isaac Kimeze from the council of the Uganda Law Society to safeguard the reputation of the Uganda Law Society and save it from further denigration,” Munaabi said.
Also, the ULS vice president, Anthony Asiimwe was expelled.
However, in what seems like a ping pong game, Ssemakadde has together with his vice president, treasurers and three other members suspended Munaabi.
In a Sunday statement, the group said they are repudiating the earlier order saying the two council members issued threats to Uganda Law Society staff, and also threatened administrative sanctions including forced removal by police.
In light of the above, Ssemakadde says the duo fabricated and circulated false council records as well as portraying Uganda Law Society as being dysfunctional and leaderless.
“Wherefore, by majority decision, the council orders that Phillip Munaabi and Geoffrey Turyamusiima are suspended from Uganda Law Society council with immediate effect pending determination of their removal from office at the general meeting scheduled for December, 17, 2024.”
Consequently, Eddie Nangulu has been appointed as the interim secretary to the Uganda Law Society.
