Uganda and Egypt have officially activated a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports, further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson, Simon Mundeyi, announced on Monday that the agreement has taken effect, allowing eligible passport holders from both nations to travel without the need for a visa.
“Talks have been ongoing and I am now happy to report we have achieved visa-free travel for official and diplomatic passport holders from Uganda and Egypt visiting Uganda,” Mundeyi said.
He clarified, however, that the visa requirement remains in place for ordinary passport holders — a category that includes the majority of Ugandan travelers.
Uganda and Egypt share long-standing and strategic ties, with cooperation spanning Nile water management, agricultural investment, trade, and regional security matters.
The development follows a similar arrangement recently activated between Uganda and the United Arab Emirates covering diplomatic and service passport holders.
Officials say the agreements are part of broader efforts to ease official travel, enhance diplomatic engagement, and deepen bilateral cooperation.
