Police have kicked off a manhunt for a private security guard attached to Saracen Uganda Limited for shooting and injuring three revelers after being suspended from duty for being drunk.
According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Ambrose Ogwang had been deployed at Nomads Bar and Grill in Bunga, a Kampala suburb as a guard when the manager found him drunk.
“The manager of the bar upon noticing that the security guard was drunk, he informed him not to work but unfortunately at around 10:30pm he was seen looking for the manager while shooting bullets,” Owoyesigyire said.
He said when the security guard failed to locate the manager, he turned the anger for being suspended onto revelers and in the resultant melee, he shot and injured three customers at the bar.
“He injured three customers including two ladies and one man who are currently receiving treatment in hospital.”
Police said the security guard later disappeared but at the scene, three cartridges were recovered, meaning he fired four bullets.
Owoyesigyire urged private security companies to always supervise their employees well to avoid such incidents but also urged Divisional and District Police Commanders around the country to also put in place stringent measures to ensure supervision of these companies.
The latest incident is yet another that depicts the behaviour of private security guards, many of whom have been implicated in robberies as well as shooting and killing members of the public.
