A 19-year-old taxi driver has been arrested in Nateete after allegedly stabbing a fellow special-hire driver to death following an incident in Central A, Lubaga Division, Kampala.

The suspect has been identified as Muwonge Sinan, while the deceased is Thomas Batiibwe Twase, 70, a special-hire driver and resident of Bulaga Zone B in Wakiso District.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala, the incident occurred at about 6:30pm on September 30, 2026, in Central A, Nateete.

It is alleged that Sinan found Twase inside a vehicle and stabbed him with a knife before fleeing the scene.

Kawala said members of the community pursued and apprehended the suspect before handing him over to police.

Police have established that both the suspect and the deceased were operating as special-hire drivers from the same area of Central A, Nateete.

“The suspect, Sinan, found Twase inside a vehicle and stabbed him with a knife. The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident but was apprehended by members of the community and handed over to police,” Kawala said.

The injured Twase was rushed to Rubaga Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“The victim was rushed to Rubaga Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead,” she added.

Kawala said Sinan is currently in police custody as detectives continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and establish the motive behind the attack.

“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” she said.
