A tragic road accident involving four vehicles and five boda bodas has claimed three lives and left 10 people injured.
The Monday night accident happened at Wantoni along the Kampala Jinja Highway in Mukono Municipality at around 9:00 PM when the driver of a Fuso truck registration number UBB 422U lost control of it and veered into the opposite lane.
In the resultant scuffle, he vehicle ploughed through several Toyota Hiace taxis including UBP 359W, UAW 042E, UAQ 398 L and five boda bodas including UFL 976T, UFN 916P, UEU 698W, UDK 495B, UDZ 777A that were parked at a taxi stage.
“The truck crashed into several vehicles, motorcycles, and roadside food stalls, resulting in the instant deaths of three individuals and injuries to ten others, including pedestrians, motorcycle riders, drivers, and vehicle passengers,” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said.
The injured include Ssaku Paul, Zafafu Bakiti, Sazza Bashir, Lubega Gerald, Kakumirizi Jackson, Nasaza Aisha, Nafuna Irene, Lubega Denis, and Bisirikira Juliet, among others.
According to Onyango, the driver of the Fuso truck fled the scene immediately after the crash, and police have launched a manhunt for him.
“We are actively investigating the matter and are working to apprehend the driver who is currently on the run,” SSP Onyango added.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kawolo Hospital for a postmortem examination, while the injured victims were rushed to various health facilities for treatment.
Police are appealing to members of the public with any information that may assist in identifying the driver or furthering investigations to come forward.
