Three polling officials at Zimbena Polling Centre in Nabweru, Wakiso District, have been arrested over allegations of unlawful possession of electoral materials during Wednesday’s voting for chairpersons, directly elected councillors, and women councillors for sub-county, town, and municipal divisions.
The suspects have been identified as Raula Nakabuye, a presiding officer; Angel Najjuma, a Biometric Voter Verification Machine (BVVM) operator; and Diana Nalubowa, a polling assistant.
Police say the trio was picked up on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, after security officers discovered electoral materials in their possession under circumstances that raised suspicion.
Confirming the arrests, Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, said the suspects are currently being held at Nabweru Police Station as investigations continue.
“Police at Nabweru are holding three suspects on allegations of unlawful possession of electoral materials. The incident occurred today, 4th February 2026, at Zimbena Polling Center during the voting exercise,”Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigyire noted that the exhibits were recovered and investigations launched.
“Exhibits were recovered, statements recorded, and investigations are ongoing,” he added
Police declined to reveal the exact nature of the materials recovered but noted that they are being treated as exhibits in the case.
