The Omukama of Tooro Kingdom,Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV has died at the age of 34.
King Oyo died from the United States from an undisclosed illness where he had been admitted in Intensive Care Unit for about a month.
While reports swirled earlier this month of his ill health, the kingdom dismissed the claims as unfounded.
Tooro Kingdom insisted the monarch was in good health and that he was abroad pursuing his studies while undertaking official engagements on behalf of the kingdom.
“The kingdom continues to operate normally under the guidance and direction of His Majesty, through the Prime Minister and his cabinet. All programmes and activities are proceeding as planned,” the statement read in part.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, reports indicated he had passed on by the kingdom dismissed them and insisted he was still alive but in criticial condition.
The kingdom prime minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki has however indicated in the latest statement that King Oyo passed on at around 10pm on Thursday.
“This is an immeasurable loss to the royal family, the people of Tooro and the nation of Ugand,” he said, calling upon the people of Tooro to remain united, calm and prayerful during “this difficult time.”
Oyo was born on April,16, 1992 .
He ascended to the throne in 1995 at the age of three following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick Olimi Kaboyo II.
He was later crowned at a coronation as the King of the Tooro Kingdom and entering the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s youngest reigning monarch until the time of his death.
King Oyo has been serving as a UNAIDS champion for HIV/AIDS among young people in Eastern and Southern Africa, aiming to end the epidemic.
